Lost October 4 - Season Three Premier
It's actually nice writing an entry about a new episode of Lost!
So tonight we had the season premier that focused on Jack, his ex-wife Sarah, and Jack's dad. We learned in season two that Sarah was seeing someone else because Jack, being a busy doctor, didn't spend time with her. Tonight's episode alluded to Sarah having a relationship with Jack's dad. Which on some levels is pretty awkward. In season two we saw Jack's Dad, Dr. Christian Shephard, pick up Ana-Lucia and bring her to Sydney. There, he was on a drinking spree. Drinking, of course, is what we all know made him lose his medical license. But Jack, wondering about the relationship between Sarah and his dad, barges in on his dad's Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, starts a fight with him, and Jack ends up in jail. And his dad, who had been sober for 50-some days, starts drinking again.
And that, it seems, is what gets him killed.
In other Lost news, we find out that the Others live in a nice community with book clubs and plumbing problems. (And didn't "Henry Gale" - is his real name Ken now? - ask Locke if they had any Stephen King, which was the selection for the book club?) The plane crash took the Others by suprise.
Which leads me to ask, Just how big is that island? We've never seen the whole island from above. I suppose it's to make the viewers see the island from the survivors point of view. Anyway...
This episode really seemed like a prelude or forward for the season. Sawyer and Kate were the only other survivors in the episode, with Kate having breakfast with Henry Gale (or at least meeting him) and Sawyer was trapped in a cage like a rat. It was more subdued than the season two opener, but it did give us a glimpse of the Others. Which is what we really wanted.

Yes, we were begging for an inside look into the others and what we got raised even more questions. I didn't even catch the Stephen King reference but you're right.
For the life of me I couldn't figure out what Jack did that was so bad. All of the other Losties seemed to have done something pretty bad in their pasts. Sayid torturing people, Kate and Sawyer killing people, Jin being muscle for the Korean mob, Charlie being a heroin addict, but we never did figure out what Jack did. Now we know. He is the reason his dad started drinking again which, ultimately, led to his death. Interesting stuff. I can't wait to see where they're going with this.
