Got my Dell working

Somehow I managed to get my old Dell computer working. The one that died on me in December.

I decided to 'try again' to get the blasted thing working. So this morning I plugged it in and managed to get to the screen where I had the option to start it in Safe Mode. (In December, I couldn't even get to that screen.) To I selected "Safe Mode" and a couple minutes later a system check showed up on the bottom of the screen.

Then the power went out. (I forgot they were going to shut down the power this morning.) So five hours later I came back and eventually managed to get the thing running in safe mode. Then I went to do a System Restore, and the damn thing works.

It's slow as hell, but it works.

I guess the computer gods don't hate me after all.

My name is John, and I work at Dell headquarters in Round Rock. Now that your system is working somewhat, I might recommend backing up any importan data do a CD or DVD, and then formatting the hard drive and reinstalling everything. It sounds like something is horribly wrong with the current Windows installation, and a full reinstall sounds like the quickest way to get things right again.

If you need anything, feel free to let me know:

I'm borrowing one of my dad's old Dells (which is faster than my own, even when it was working!) and since he's closed down his business, he wont need it for a while.

I'll just wait a few months to decide what I'll do about a new computer. (Either get a Mac with Leapord or get Windows Tiger... errr, Vista.)

At least this gave me a chance to get my files backed up again, since I couldn't find my last backup disks I made.
