Ads? Bananas!

One thing I hate in blogdom are those 'contextual' ads. These are the ads that, when you're browsing a webpage you'll see a word or two double underlines. You hover your mouse over one of those words and an ad pops up.

I hate those things. They are one of the most annoying things on the 'net right now. (I wonder if there's a Contextual Ad Blocker plugin for Firefox?) I will avoid blogs/sites that have them. I used to post a lot on OpenSourceCMS.com until they added those damn things, not I only go by every once in a while.

I bring all this up because a few days ago I was at the aforementioned site reading a forum post when I saw the word 'bananas' double underlined.

Bananas? Someone sells bananas online? There's actually a contextual ad market for bananas?

Sure enough.

I understand wanting to make a buck or two. OpensourceCMS.com uses a lot of resources and the ads help fund that. I can forgive them for that. What I don't understand is why personal bloggers get greedy.

I wont put contextual ads on Misguided Thoughts. Or Google Ads for that matter. I'll certainly link up Amazon.com items of things I find interesting. And I may have a Netflix ad somewhere. But that's it.

I'm not writing here to make a living. (That's another site. smileywink: ).

I'm writing here to entertain myself (and others in the process.)
