How to Solve NBC's Monday at 10pm Problem
The Deathslot. That's what NBC should call its Monday at 10PM timeslot. That's when CBS airs CSI:Miami, the #1 or #2 show on tv (aside from American Idol or other non-regularly scheduled shows.)
It's a tough time. For some reason, Miami continues to dominate. And no matter what NBC does, it just can't win. Studio 60 suffered from the Deathslot. The Black Donnellys is suffering. It's not that these shows are all bad. They just can't win.
So maybe it shouldn't try.
Instead, I think NBC should put reruns in that slot. But not just any rerun. Battlestar Galactica reruns.
Battlestar Galactica is a great show. People may think it's just sci-fi, but it's not. It's about people, and what they have to do to survive. It's underrated and deserves a wider audience. (Especially helpful if they're going to make the Battlestar Galactica movie in place of a 5th season.)
SciFi Channel and NBC are sister companies. So getting the rights to air the show should be easy. As for the mature content, just slap a "Viewer Discretion Advised" disclaimer on it.
And if they run it in order, starting with the mini-series, they could have a good 70 episodes at the end of the fourth season, enough for about a year and a half (counting time off for holidays and special Monday night fare.) Great entertainment and low cost. Could be a winner.
Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.
