The year of the strong woman. That's what the Lead Actress category is about.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

The Nominees are...
  • Sally Field (Nora Holden-Walker, Brothers & Sisters)
  • Glenn Close (Patty Hewes, Damages)
  • Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit)
  • Holly Hunter (Grace Hanadarko, Saving Grace)
  • Kyra Sedgwick (Brenda Johnson, The Closer)

This is the year of the basic cable woman. Three strong nominees from three cable shows is amazing. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of them (again, in my Netflix queue.) As I can't stand Law & Order, my pick is going to Sally Field for her osteoporosis... errrrr, her role as the matriarch of the Walker family - one of my favorite families on TV. From warm to tough, Sally brings a warm touch to the show.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series

The Nominees are...
  • Candice Bergen (Shirley Schmidt, Boston Legal)
  • Rachel Griffiths (Sarah Walker-Whedon, Brothers & Sisters)
  • Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey, Grey's Anatomy)
  • Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang, Grey's Anatomy)
  • Dianne Wiest (Dr. Gina Toll, In Treatment)

Dr. Bailey has had such a tough year. Her family life was falling apart, her marriage failing, and having to raise her son while putting in those 60 to 80 hours at work. And on top of that, she had to take care of the kids she works with - Meredith, George, Christina and the rest. And Chandra Wilson rose to the challenge admirably! In fact, she's the only reason I'll even watch Grey's Anatomy!

Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series

The Nominees are...
  • Ellen Burstyn (Nancy Dutton, Big Love)
  • Diahann Carroll (Jane Burke, Grey's Anatomy)
  • Cynthia Nixon (Janis Donovan, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit)
  • Anjelica Huston (Cynthia Keener, Medium )
  • Sharon Gless (Colleen Rose, Nip/Tuck)

I'm not too familiar with many of the characters here (for the live of me I'm trying to figure out who Nancy Dutton was on Big Love - and I really enjoy that show!) But I'm going for Diahann Carroll for the eyebrows of a year ago.
